Superstorm Sandy caused major disruption to passenger rail and other commuter systems throughout New York and New Jersey. To prepare for future weather events and any other potential power outages, NJT is implementing distributed generation upgrades across multiple facilities.

The distributed generation program will ensure at minimum two weeks of resilient operations for six NJT locations:

Burns is overseeing electrical, mechanical, and structural components of the design/build project.

Modifications of the transportation system infrastructure require close coordination with NJT and Amtrak officials to limit disruption on transit operations.

Construction activities for the $39-million program are scheduled to complete in 2025.

Burns is proud to support NJT implement a wide range of system reliability, resiliency and sustainability improvements. Previous and on-going assignments include assessments and bovada casino reviewdesigns for NJ TransitGrid, the agency’s zero-emission bus garage modernization plan, and the Hoboken Depot and Henderson Street substations.
